In preparation for the inauguration of “Terowongan Silaturahmi”, ALTA Integra has redesigned new facade lighting for this beautiful Neo-Gothic Church. “Terowongan Silaturahmi” underpass will connect Jakarta Cathedral Church and Istiqlal Grand Mosque Jakarta. This underpass will be the symbol of friendship between two big religions in the world.

The facade light project planned to finish in early 2020 but because of Covid 19 pandemic, it’s delayed. Health protocol recommends us not to gathering for worship, but when Christmas is coming Jakarta Katedral Church decided to send a message that Christmas will bring us new hope through light and music show that symbolizes hope, happiness, and peace.

Before there is no electricity and light technology, Bell is used as a communication tool from church to public. They created many bell codes to communicate different occasions, for example, three times bell sound means an invitation for Sunday Mass. Five times bell sound means there is a happy event inside the church.

Jakarta Cathedral Challenges - first as fast urban development makes a city noisier and busier, people hardly hear the sound of a church bell - second the church is surrounded by many buildings and tall trees. Answering those challenges we advise the Jakarta Cathedral Church to use light as a communication medium.
